Karl’s Caribbean Ham Steak

Today, as I was thinking about making a ham steak, I was wondering what I could do that was new and different from my usual brown sugar, vinegar and clove glaze. I made a Caribbean salad last Sunday and I was thinking that a variation of that dressing might work well. Jan thought the using a whole Habanero was a bit too spicy, but go with your own tolerance.

Note: I also made a variation of the salad, some cornbread, and a pear crumble for dessert.

Karl’s Caribbean Ham Steak

1 Habanero pepper, minced
2 Tbs. Dejon mustard
2 Tbs. brown sugar
2 tsp. apple cider vinegar
¼ tsp. black pepper
Pinch salt

1 lb. ham steak

1. Mix the first 6 ingredients and spread evenly over the ham steak.

2. Bake the ham at 350° F. for 30 minutes in a shallow baking pan.

Tip: Switch to broil for the last 5 minutes, but keep a close eye out for burning the top.

3. Cut into portions and serve immediately.
