Karl’s Lemon Ham Steak

When Safeway has a half price sale on hams (after a holiday) I buy a half a ham and cut it into ¾ inch ham steaks to freeze for later. A ham steak is pretty much just a slab of meat. The trick is what glaze do you put on it to dress it up. I have been experimenting with ways to use my marmalades—in other ways than just slathering it on toast and pancakes in the morning.

Karl’s Three Bean Salad

I bought a Safeway ham the other day and I was thinking about a weekday dinner. I wanted something other than my usual sweet potatoes and steamed green beans to go with the ham. I decided what I needed was a dish that covered both my starch and vegetable. Three bean salad seemed the way to go.

Karl & Miriam’s Sous-Vide Santa Maria Tri-tip

Son-in-law Chris has requested tri-tip for his birthday meal. My daughter, Miriam, has been experimenting with her new sous-vide device and we decided to make a joint effort and give it a try. We settled on Santa Maria tri-tip as the seasoning—Myr would sous-vide the meat and I would grill it.
