Wife Jan just had temporary crowns put in, so she is having trouble chewing. I am planning to make a ham and sweet potato dinner—I will be mincing her portion of ham. Normally, I would simply steam some broccoli, but I suggested broccoli soup instead—wife agreed.

Karl’s Cream of Broccoli Soup
My son-in-law is on a low starch diet, so it is a challenge to come up with recipes that fit his desires. I decided that a cream of broccoli soup would be the thing. Looking on-line for ideas showed me that most of the recipes included some form of starch—flour, potatoes, corn starch, beans, and even nuts. For this recipe I did my usual, one ingredient from this recipe, another ingredient from that recipe to make something new and different.

Karl’s Cream of Broccoli Soup au Gratin
I am making Beef Bourguignon this Sunday and I was thinking about a vegetable side. I have done green beans to death and I am sure that my family would like something a little different. I thought about steams broccoli with a cheese sauce, but fussing with making a sauce at the very end of the cooking time gets a bit hectic. Then I thought, “Why not make it a soup?”
