Karl’s Savory Rice Pudding

Daughter Eilene just got a dental implant and is on soft foods for a few days. She is getting tired of soups, so I thought I would make a savory rice pudding. Looking on-line, I couldn’t seem to find anything that was even close to what I had in mind—herby, super-eggy, and filling.

Karl’s Orange Infused Rice Pudding

Adapted from a Food.com recipe

Eilene is down with the British flu—nose and throat vs American flu, stomach. She thought that a warm rice pudding would feel good going down. I looked up a recipe and, of course, changed it to my liking.

Claudia’s French Toast

Fond memories of childhood. The occasional Saturday when my mother would make French toast. Soft, custardy bread dripping with butter and syrup.

Karl’s Orange Custard

I made Jan’s orange custard earlier this week and I decided to add some of my Ultimate Micro Orange Marmalade. While I thought it was perfect, Jan thought it was too sweet—Jan’s custard already had half of the sugar that most of the recipes on-line use. To please her I eliminated the Orange Infused Sugar entirely. This dish does not suffer for having only a small bit of sugar.

Karl’s Hawaiian Custard with Marmalade

A few weeks ago Jan created this custard. I thought it would go well as a dessert for my ham dinner tonight. As usual I have to add a few twists.

Jan’s Orange Custard

Jan had oral surgery yesterday so she is on a soft food diet for the next few days. She decided to make herself some custard. She decided that she totally disagreed with the one she found in Bittman’s, so she made it from the memory from what her mother taught her fifty years ago. She did make one major change from her mother’s recipe, which was to use my orange infused sugar.
