When Safeway has a half price sale on hams (after a holiday) I buy a half a ham and cut it into ¾ inch ham steaks to freeze for later. While ham steak is good just on its own, it is nice to dress it up a bit. For this Sunday’s dinner, I thought I would try to barbecue the steak and put a lemon glaze on it.

I was shopping at Lucky supermarket and I noticed that they had whole salmon for $3 a pound. It may have been a weekday, but I could not pass that up. Personally I prefer to barbecue salmon, but it is a weekday and with all of the fires in California it has been constant “spare the air” days.
Jan likes caprese salad, which is tomatoes, mozzarella, onion, olives and basil in a light vinaigrette. Usually I go to La Villa, a very good Italian deli in Willow Glen and pay through the nose for a very small portion. While La Villa makes a good salad, I decided that I could make it cheaper and fresher.
I have been craving salmon lately. So I went out to get some. The question is what to do with it.
It is a constant challenge to make my meals meet all of my family’s food preferences: low fat, keto, soft food, yes mushrooms/no mushrooms, not to mention various allergies. Most of the dishes that I am planning for this Sunday are a bit bland, so I thought that I should make at least one with some kick to it.
