I had decided on a French(-ish) cuisine roast chicken for Sunday’s family dinner. Daughter Miriam is still off onions and garlic, so I needed to create a tasty recipe that did not include them. However, some habits are hard to break and I added garlic to my marinade without thinking. To make something for Miriam, I bought another chicken breast and marinated it in the same marinade sans garlic.

Miriam and Chris are on a trip this weekend, so it is only Jan, Eilene and myself for Sunday dinner. I did not want to go to a great deal of effort, but I did not want to make a “blaa” weekday dinner either. A whole roasted chicken was just what was called for to go with my sweet potatoes and broccolini.
My usual pattern of having the family over for dinner was disrupted by Captain America. We went to the movie and had deli dinner over at the kids’ place (yes, she’s 28 now, but she’s still our titmouse). I brought the dried meats, bread and cheese, Miriam provided the fruit and veggies.
It has been a while since I have done roast chicken. One thing this blog has done for me (to me?) is to force me to test the bounds of flavors. I have been making Sichuan pepper shrimp and it has been very popular with my family. I decided to try this seasoning with a whole chicken.
It is a constant challenge to make my meals meet all of my family’s food preferences: low fat, keto, soft food, yes mushrooms/no mushrooms, not to mention various allergies. Most of the dishes that I am planning for this Sunday are a bit bland, so I thought that I should make at least one with some kick to it.
