Karl’s Ham Steak with Brandied Peach Sauce

Many weeks I will spend the entire week thinking about and planning Sunday’s dinner.  I have had a rough week—broken car, broken shower, broken refrigerator—and I did not feel I had it in me to plan an elaborate meal ahead of time. A plain ham steak, steamed green beans, a simple coleslaw, and a baked sweet potato would have to do. While this is a meal that started off simply, I got carried away.

Last week, I was being Papa’s Uber for Eilene—she was being paid to be a professional “pedestrian,” during an autonomous vehicle test. While I waited for her, I was pursuing the cookbooks at the library. One of the books was Everyday Harumi.

Karl’s Peach Jam

Last weekend Eilene’s friends invaded the house for Fanime. This meant peaceful days, but a hungry horde descending upon the house at 10 PM. Eilene asked for fresh crackers as a snack when they arrived. While I was at the farmer’s market I saw some peaches. Peach jam and crackers seemed like just the thing for starving teenagers.
