Last week, Jan and I went over the hill to Santa Cruz to visit her “new” brother. While we were there, we stopped by a large book store that was going out of business. The cookbook section was fairly picked over, but as I was perusing the fiction section I found a book Izakaya: Japanese Bar food—someone had obviously picked it up and then changed their mind, leaving it “where ever.” Their loss, my gain. This Sunday, I decided to make a Japanese bar style dinner.

I am making a California Fusion birthday dinner with Uyghur lamb and naan. If I was trying for a traditional Uyghur menu seafood would be right out—the closest ocean to Kashgar is at least 2,000 miles away over the Himalayas. But hey, this is California and I’ll make what I like.

I have been cooking lately, but I have been too busy to post write up and post the recipes. This mushroom dish is from Sunday dinner two weeks ago. I did a barbecued chicken with a wet Sichuan sauce a few weeks ago and I thought the sauce would go well with grilled mushrooms.
