Karl’s Peach and Strawberry Crisp

I saw some peaches and strawberries in the market today and I decided to make a fruit crisp. This is a dish from my childhood with many fond memories. This dish may also be called a crumble, because you crumble the topping over the fruit.

Claudia’s Apple Crisp

Before I left home for the first time, I sat down with my mother’s recipe box and wrote down my favorite dishes. She would usually only make this a few times each year, but we always loved it.  Continue reading

Jan’s Chris’ Birthday Brownie

Adapted from a Rebecca Katz ‘The Longevity Kitchen’ recipe

Son-in-law Chris’s birthday is this week, so Jan decided to bake him a brownie cake to go with my Moroccan feast. Chocolate brownie cake may not be Moroccan, but Chris loves Chocolate.  Sacrifices must be made.

Karl’s Shire Seed Cake

Adapted from Recipe Wise

Eilene is having friends over to watch the last Lord of the Rings movie. It is time to think up some new Shire themed recipes. I am thinking seed cake and honey chicken wings.

Miriam’s Balsamic Strawberries

Myr and Jan went to a pot-luck at Pie Ranch yesterday (Hey, for them this is work). Myr’s contribution the meal was Balsamic Strawberries. These are good all by themselves, but they can also go equally well on a mesclun salad or vanilla ice cream.

Jan’s Morpheus Mini Muffins

Jan, literally, woke up from a dream about swirling muffins.  She found a Taste of Home recipe to adapt to her dream. Since she found them in a dream, she calls them Morpheus muffins.

Karl’s Hawaiian Custard with Marmalade

A few weeks ago Jan created this custard. I thought it would go well as a dessert for my ham dinner tonight. As usual I have to add a few twists.

Karl’s Ultimate Micro Orange Marmalade with Meyer Lemon

Every Christmas for more than the last decade I have made marmalade as a giveaway. I would make 40-60 twelve ounce jars at a time. It always takes several days to process and cook all of that jam.

Jan’s Orange Almond Flax Bread Pudding

Jan likes flax bread, but because of her oral surgery she did not eat the loaf that I bought her last week at the Farmer’s Market. The loaf is now stale. It is either throw it away and waste the bread or do what cooks have been doing with stale bread for centuries, bread pudding.
