Last weekend Eilene’s friends invaded the house for Fanime. This meant peaceful days, but a hungry horde descending upon the house at 10 PM. Eilene asked for fresh crackers as a snack when they arrived. While I was at the farmer’s market I saw some peaches. Peach jam and crackers seemed like just the thing for starving teenagers.

Claudia’s Chocolate Mousse 2.0
Miriam requested my mother’s chocolate mousse for her birthday dinner. Jan has experimented with variations over the years, but Miriam wanted the original “plain” chocolate mousse. Jan chaffed at this restriction, until she thought of using Strauss milk.

Jan’s Apricot Pistachio Baklava

I am allergic to walnuts, so I cannot eat regular baklava. Jan decided that she would make pistachio baklava as the desert to go with the Middle Eastern feast I am making for Mother’s day.

Karl’s Peach and Strawberry Crisp
I saw some peaches and strawberries in the market today and I decided to make a fruit crisp. This is a dish from my childhood with many fond memories. This dish may also be called a crumble, because you crumble the topping over the fruit.

Jan’s Chris’ Birthday Brownie

Son-in-law Chris’s birthday is this week, so Jan decided to bake him a brownie cake to go with my Moroccan feast. Chocolate brownie cake may not be Moroccan, but Chris loves Chocolate. Sacrifices must be made.

Karl’s Ultimate Micro Orange Marmalade with Meyer Lemon
Every Christmas for more than the last decade I have made marmalade as a giveaway. I would make 40-60 twelve ounce jars at a time. It always takes several days to process and cook all of that jam.

Jan’s Orange Almond Flax Bread Pudding
Jan likes flax bread, but because of her oral surgery she did not eat the loaf that I bought her last week at the Farmer’s Market. The loaf is now stale. It is either throw it away and waste the bread or do what cooks have been doing with stale bread for centuries, bread pudding.
