Karl’s Caucasus Style Braised Pork Shoulder

Adapted from Gourmet magazine

I have been looking at the recipes on Georgia About with hungry eyes, I am talking about gee-OR-gee-a. If you search for Georgian recipes you will get three things: 1) Southern U.S. Georgian recipes, 2) late 18th century English Georgian cooking, 3) and a few recipes from the country of Georgia. With this as my inspiration I started to create a Georgian feast for this Sunday.

Karl’s Italian Sausage, Beans and Barley Soup

Jan is still struggling with her cold, so she wants soup for the second day in a row. I did not want to make the same thing I did yesterday, so I was trolling through the WordPress reader for soups. I looked at several, before one finally caught my eye.

Karl’s Sweet Pepper and Fennel Soup with Italian Sausage Meat Balls II

My older sister and her husband will be stopping by this week end. I want to make a nice dinner for them. I decided that my sweet pepper and fennel soup would be a good start.

Karl’s Sweet Pepper and Fennel Soup with Italian Sausage Meatballs

Last Sunday we visited out friends in Fresno, Pat and Jim, who own a farm. With a large kitchen garden, it is risky to stop by their house or have them visit you. Last year, Pat showed up on our doorstep with a twenty pound bag of tomatoes. This year we got pepper bombed and a butternut squash literally the size of a baby. What am I going to do with a big bag of mixed peppers?

Karl’s Caribbean Ham Steak

Today, as I was thinking about making a ham steak, I was wondering what I could do that was new and different from my usual brown sugar, vinegar and clove glaze. I made a Caribbean salad last Sunday and I was thinking that a variation of that dressing might work well. Jan thought the using a whole Habanero was a bit too spicy, but go with your own tolerance.

Karl’s Pulled Pork Tacos

I have had some slow roasted pork in my freezer for a while. I decided that it was time to do something with it and pulled pork tacos seemed like a good idea. The decision was a popular one with Jan and Eilene.

Karl’s Gobi Pasta au Gratin with Bacon (Mac & Cheese with a twist)

The French girl goes home tomorrow. Eilene is planning to have a bunch of her friends over for dinner, because Jan is teaching tonight. The question is what to feed them.

Karl’s Calzone

I found out that the French girl really liked calzone so I decided to whip some up. I had left over pizza dough when I made the savory beef muffins. I froze it for later use. It is later.

Claudia’s Pizza

Before I left home for the first time, I sat down with my mother’s recipe box and wrote down my favorite dishes.  She would make pizza for dinner almost every Sunday. It was a fight to see who would get left-over pizza for breakfast the next morning. I have changed it some since then, but this is her original recipe.

Karl’s Ham Steak

When Safeway has a half price sale on hams (after a holiday) I buy a half a ham and cut it into ¾ inch ham steaks to freeze for later. This is later. The French girl is still with us and I decided to make ham steak, parsley potatoes and coleslaw for dinner.
