Karl’s Santa Maria Coleslaw

This week I am making Santa Maria tri-tip, which calls for Santa Maria-style beans. While many sites call for serving coleslaw with this meal, I could not find anything called “Santa Maria-style coleslaw.” Having grownup just a few miles away, in Santa Barbara, I decided to fill this obvious need.

Karl’s Cal Col Roja en Escabeche II (Pickled Red Cabbage)

I am making pork chili verde for Sunday dinner. Several of the recipes that I looked at toped their dishes off with some red salsa. I decided to provide some Cal col roja en escabeche, pickled red cabbage, for my diners to put on top of their pork, if they wished. I did not want to make a mound of pickles, just enough for an accent to the green sauce.

Karl’s Colorful Asian Coleslaw

Normally, with ham, I would want to serve North Carolina coleslaw, but Jan is not overly fond of this. She finds the harsh Western vinegar too sour. She prefers the more gently sweet and sour flavors of Asian coleslaw made with rice wine vinegar.

Karl’s Rotkohl II

I want to make Charlie B’s tomorrow. This is a leftover breakfast, but to make it you kind of have to have the leftovers. I already had the potatoes, but I needed the sausage. That meant bratwurst for dinner tonight.

Karl’s Calabrese and Cabbage Soup

My nephew, Braden, is staying at Myr’s place and is leaving today. For one last meal together we decided to have a Sunday lunch at her place before they ran him to the airport. Before Miriam and Chris went to his mother’s for Christmas, they gave us some Calabrese sausages. I thought it would be a good idea to uses these for this meal.

Karl’s Colorful Coleslaw

I have been doing a lot of Christmas cooking lately, so I have had very little time to blog about cooking. Earlier this week we had sausages and latkes for dinner. Coleslaw goes well with this meal, but I did not have enough of any one cabbage to make it.

Karl’s Rotkohl

I had planned on making this German feast last year, but the meal fell apart. I think Miriam got sent off to Peru for work (just like she is today). Chris is still coming over, so I am going to go ahead and make it this time.
