Karl’s Orange Infused Pancakes

Adapted from a Martha Stewart recipe

Note: I have been so busy with the holidays and posting big festival meals that some little gems have gone begging.

As much as I like to cook, breakfasts have not been a high priority for me. My secret sin is that my morning pancakes have always come from a box. Two months ago, my family woke up wanting pancakes and my cupboard was bare. Time to learn how to make them from scratch—“To the bat-internet!”

Karl’s Dry Fried Salmon

I wanted something quick and easy for a weekday dinner. I have been experimenting with dry frying skin-on salmon fillets. A simple salad and a quick couscous dish completed the meal.

Karl’s Tapas: Chorizo Relleno de Pepino (Chorizo Stuffed Cucumber)

Adapted from a Orce Serrano Hams recipe

I am making a Spanish tapas dinner for this Sunday. This is a tasty and easy tapas. Stuff the sausage into the cucumber and slice it into rings just before serving.

Bacon Pancakes

I cannot claim this recipe as my own. Eilene saw it on-line and asked for it for breakfast. A quick look at the internet showed me what she wanted—once you’ve seen a picture of it, it is obvious.

Karl’s  Orange Butter Roast Chicken

Miriam and Chris are on a trip this weekend, so it is only Jan, Eilene and myself for Sunday dinner. I did not want to go to a great deal of effort, but I did not want to make a “blaa” weekday dinner either. A whole roasted chicken was just what was called for to go with my sweet potatoes and broccolini.

Papa English’s One-eyed Jacks (Punch-Out Eggs)

This is a recipe from Jan’s family. Truth be told, it is more of a technique than a recipe. This is so simple that even guys who do not cook can get this done. Breakfast in bed anyone?

Note on Name Change: Jan informed me that this is a recipe her father made when they were camping.
