Karl’s Strawberry Vinaigrette Green Beans

I am planning a buttermilk roasted chicken tonight. I wanted a green vegetable to go with it and green beans came to mind. This Sunday, Miriam served us her marinated strawberries and steamed green beans. I thought: Why serve them separately?

Karl’s Mashed Yams III

I am making a Southern (U.S.) roasted chicken. Southern chicken calls for yams to be the starch. This is one of those dishes that I try to make differently each time I make it. I am still looking for the perfect mashed yam dish.

Karl’s Game of Thrones Stuffed Meatloaf

Eilene is having friends over for Tuesday night shows and I always try to make something exotic for them. Looking at the recipes for Game of Thrones, they are either too simple, too complex, or take too long to make.

Karl’s Seafood Bisque

Adapted from a Southern Food recipe

Safeway had a sale on frozen crab legs last week and I thought I would make a crab something. Jan was not feeling like crab at the time so I left them frozen.  I remembered that I had them and I thought I would make seafood bisque today.

Karl’s Lamb Sliders

The Mercury News had a recipe for turkey sliders this week. Sliders are mini-burgers about two to three inches across. Jan decided she wanted some for dinner. I had some left over lamb from Sunday’s dinner, so I suggested using it for the sliders. While it was not quite what she wanted, she agreed, if I would make fresh buns.

Karl’s Rosemary Slider Buns / Dinner Rolls

Apparently, my sisters and I never remembered to get the recipe for my mother’s dinner rolls. When Jan asked for sliders for dinner, they would have been a good choice for the buns. Jan, however, has this thing against white bread, so I would have had to make them at least partly with whole wheat anyway. While I am making these as slider buns, they would also make very good dinner roles.

Karl’s Moroccan Lamb Stuffed Artichokes and Peppers

Adapted from a Destination Anywhere recipe

It is son-in-law Chris’ birthday week and he has asked for Moroccan. Last year I made an oxtail tajine. He loved it, but it was a bit too oily for Jan. I decided to look for something else Moroccan.

Jan’s Chris’ Birthday Brownie

Adapted from a Rebecca Katz ‘The Longevity Kitchen’ recipe

Son-in-law Chris’s birthday is this week, so Jan decided to bake him a brownie cake to go with my Moroccan feast. Chocolate brownie cake may not be Moroccan, but Chris loves Chocolate.  Sacrifices must be made.

Karl’s Moroccan Couscous Salad

Adapted from A Dash of Flavour

I am making Moroccan stuffed vegetables and I wanted a dish for the starch eaters in my home. I found this recipe on-line and my first thought was to make it Californian, raw vegetables and starch with a dressing. As I read through the directions I began to understand the appeal of the lightly sautéed vegetables. Still, I could not help myself from making some changes.

Karl’s Moroccan Salad

Adapted from Levena Cooks

I was looking for a salad to go with my lamb stuffed vegetables and this one struck my fancy. The tangy citrus should offset the oiliness of the lamb quite nicely. I chose Cara cara oranges, because they are seedless and the pink color should look nice with the red and white of the radishes. I decided to add some celery for the extra crunch.
